Nose guard retained with $7 million tag Aaron Wilson
The New England Patriots have confirmed the news that they have retained massive nose guard Vince Wilfork by designating him as their franchise player.
Toward their goal of signing him to a long-term contract after securing his rights with a one-year, $7 million tag, the Patriots made it clear in their press release that they intend to keep negotiating with Wilfork.
No deal is imminent, though.
"A long-term agreement with Vince Wilfork has been the team's top contractual priority for some time," the team announced in a statement. "Unfortunately, despite numerous conversations and proposals, the goal has not yet been realized. Vince is a tremendous player for our team and remains a significant part of our future plans.
"It is because of Vince's importance to this organization that we have assigned the franchise designation as we continue to work toward a long-term agreement. We are hopeful that Vince will remain a Patriot for many years to come."
Wilfork has made it clear previously that he wants a long-term contract with lots of upfront money to secure his future and his family's.
And the Patriots have made it clear that they want to work something out.
What's left to determine? How much money should he be paid?
Defensive linemen like Wilfork are extremely expensive.
