The New England Patriots downgraded safety James Sanders to out due to a shoulder injury, a development that could possibly trigger linebacker Jerod Mayo being active on Sunday.

Mayo, who has been sidelined with a sprained medial collateral ligament, is expected to be a game-time decision for this game against the Denver Broncos.

Brandon McGowan is slated to start again in Sander' spot.
