Former Jacksonville defensive end works out for Patriots Aaron Wilson
When the agent for free agent defensive tackle Antwan Lake indicated that Lake would be trying out for the New England Patriots, it stood to reason that Lake wasn't the only defensive lineman auditioning for the AFC East franchise.
The Patriots also tried out former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer, according to a league source.
Spicer, 34, was cut by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 5 during the final major roster cutdown.
He was cut by the Jaguars in February.
In a decade in the NFL, Spicer has recorded 252 tackles, 28 1/2 sacks and one interception.
Plus, the Patriots tried out defensive tackle Matthias Askew.
Askew was recently cut by the Denver Broncos. He has previous stints with the Washington Redskins and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Askew was drafted in the fourth round by the Bengals in the 2004 NFL draft after declaring early for the draft from Michigan State.
