It gained little attention in NFL circles, but the New England Patriots worked out former Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Terdell Sands on Friday.

According to a league source, Sands was the only defensive lineman to audition for New England.

Sands was cut by the Raiders during their final major roster cutdown following a disappointing tenure in Oakland.

The 6-foot-7, 335-pounder has always had vast potential, but has rarely lived up to that promise.

In six years with the Raiders, he started just 14 out of 75 games with 128 tackles, four sacks and an interception.
Sands reportedly punched punter Shane Lechler in the face during a team flight last November.

A team in panic....They shouldn't have traded Seymour (he was in a contract year after all)

how is this a panic?

They are going to put Prior on IR as he has been inactive for the first three games and put this big guy in his place.... i can see the patriots converting this guy to a offensive tackle @ 6'7" 335 he would be a great project

Sands is a bust. He hasn't produced at all all these years in the league, he just was in the Raiders.
And now Belichick thinks he can turn him into a decent player? This isn't the same case with Dillon, Moss, Harrison etc who all were good players and needed a change in environment. We're talking about a guy who has 4 career sacks and is so bad he couldn't even find a place in Oakland...the second (or first) coming of Junior Savii.

5 consecutive bad drafts, including this year too
+ letting productive players go because "they can be replaced"
+ getting no-names hoping they are hidden gems
+ geriatric team
= at least 2 SB chances blown since 2005 and no hope for a rebound in the near future

It's clear Belichick thinks way too much of himself

This guy actually has Terd in his name and plays like one.
Kinda writes his own scouting report.

That last Oakland malcontent, Randy Moss, paved the way. The cashiering of Seymour's last contract year for a (probably) top-of-first-round draft choice really paved the highway. Belichick will at least take a second glance at anything Oakland can yard-sale. Maybe the junk works, maybe it doesn't, but looking over the reject stuff is so cheap!

I really doubt that Belichick needs a defensive lineman right now, so unless BB sees potential, Sands is out..
