Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis is reportedly looking to build a case against coach Tom Cable to allow the organization to fire Cable with cause following the season.

According to a Yahoo! Sports blurb, the Raiders are going along with the league's investigation into Cable's conduct so that Davis will have sufficient reason to fire Cable and not have to pay the coach the remainder of his contract following the expected dismissal.

Among Cable's alleged transgressions: the Randy Hanson incident, which Cable avoided criminal charges for, and a recent ESPN report that painted a troubling picture of Cable's involvement over the years with domestic violence allegations.

What a shock! Al trying to not pay off a coaches contract. I know there are only 32 of these things, but you'd have to be crazy to take the Raiders gig. I'm not saying Cable shouldn't go, but I love how Al worms his way out of free agent deals (DeAngelo Hall) and coaches contracts (Shanahan, Kiffin, now Cable)

neal buddy, MeAngelo Hall got 8 million dollars for 8 games. Don't feel too bad for him. Al made a mistake in thinking Hall could cover man to man, and released him fully paid when he realized he couldn't.

I'll give you Kiffin, but Shanahan borrowed money from Al up front and never paid it back. Two sides to every story, Shanahan was just the most vocal.

As far as Cable is concerned, this is just a rumor at this point put out by Jason Cole. Don't believe everything you hear coming from Yahoo Sports. Could be true, could be BS, too early to tell.

My Man Jon -- You are blinded by raider nation love. Cable is way over his head and is not appropriate for representing the Raiders or the NFL. He is an unsavory, class-less guy who should be at best in the background if he has any talent. Where there is smoke there is fire -- in most cases where the is frivilous or total lies, you hear someone defend himself and threaten to take some form of action -- he did something, maybe not criminal, but not something you want a leader doing for your organization. He should be put down now. As far as Davis goes, he should pay him $$ as a dumb tax.

Brian, I agree. I didn't mean to sound as if I was defending Cable, just pointing out that we have no idea what Davis is thinking regardless of what Yahoo reports. I don't think Cable is going to make it past this season. I also don't see how the latest developments will give Davis anymore "cause" than the Hanson incident did.

Riiiiiing... "Hello." "Hello Mr. Gruden, Al Davis, long time no talk. Wondering if you'd consider coming back to Oakland and coaching the Raiders again?" "Been there...done that"...'click'.

Riiiiiing... "Hello." "Hello Mr. Holmgren, Al Davis, hows it going. Was calling to see if you would be interested in becoming head coach of the Raiders?" "Hey Al, it's raining really loud up here in Seattle today, it's kinda hard to hear you, let me call you back tomorrow." "Hey Kathy!! Al Davis from Oakland just called, I thought our number was unlisted."

Riiiiing... "Hello." "Hello Mr. Cowher, Al Davis with the Raiders." (Laughing then dial tone). "Hmmm Bill must be busy, I'll call him back when The Price is Right goes off."

Riiiiing... "Shanahan residence." "Hey Peggy is Mike around? It's Al Davis." "@sshole!!!"...'click'

Riiiiing... "Hello." "Hello Mr. Zorn, Al Davis out in Oakland. How would you feel about becoming head coach of the Raiders?" "Well I already have a job here in Washington." "Yeah I wouldn't sound so sure about that.."

"$hit...someone call the Tribune...we might have to put out an ad this time around..."

Isn't Brian Billick interested in being the head coach for the Raiders? If he is crazy enough to want the job.....he wouldn't be the worst guy to coach the Raiders! (that would be Cable:))

I have been a raider fan since 1966. I also was a season ticket holder from 1971- 1980. Of course Al is the problem now. At one time he was the solution. AL man to man DB play only works with presure upfront. The Raider teams I grew up seeing would put presure on your ass.
On offense in the 60's 70's and part of the 80's Al davis ball worked. You could drop back 7 steps a throw down field. Al has never got off these concepts. It has cost the most proud franshise in the nfl dearly. When I was a kid I would watch the Raiders beat people up. I mean other team were really scared coming to Oakland... The raiders were tough just like the city of Oakland. right now Oakland maybe the toughest city in america (called little Iraq). Our team is just the oppsite. You can go to oakland and see jamarcus Russel fat ass high as a kite partying in the clubs. Now don't get me wrong Kenny Stabler use to get blasted too but on sun in Oakland he would pick you apart. there are so may problems with this team. Raiders have no real scouting dept, no real genreal manager. Al thinks speed and strenth is all you need to win in NFL.
From 1966 to 1987 no team in nfl was better than raiders from 1988 to present no team has been worst. I will give you the few Gruden years as positive. My point is the same amount of years the raiders have been great under AL they have been below ave. Al must die, sell the team or something but it is time Al get out of the way.... We are tired and deserve much more.

Raiders would be best job in NFL without AL

Bull Pucky, if Al Davis wanted somebody out, they would have already been out before you ever heard about it. One of the benefits of being, THE MAN.

Just one more point, If they dragged up every mistake you made for the last TWENTY YEARS, there would be a single team with a Head Coach.

People who live in glass houses...

This has got to stop -they cant change to a new coach every season, they are going to have to find a great potential coach, have him quit his job, pack up his home, move his family, change his kids school, move to oakland, for one season-only to get fired because he doesnt agree with al davis, then get fired for cause. ~ where are we going to find another guy to do all this again!!

GD it pains me to say u might be right its just that hes given us so much thru the years i to go back to the mid 60s ive got enough old videos and books to keep me alive , how many fans can say they got screwed out of more super bowls than most teams have been in Raider fans have had to ednure alot . just hold tight to the memories 4 now Raiders will be back

ya its true time for AL to step down, but not only do the raiders have in-house problems, the raiders have to deal with a league bias and a referee bias against them that should be criminal. I'm more sick of losing games that should have been won by refs blatant bogus calls on the field and still there is no enforcement of refs who make BS calls over and over season after season. Also all the new rules in the name of player safety is killing the game of football i grew up to love. How bout just make it 2-hand touch so know one gets hurt. Soon all the Sissys will have their way. Soon we will get house moms announcing the games telling me how to play the game when they never even have touched a football, not sayin some of the turds they got now are any better. if u dont agree with that then F---You have a nice day

Payton:
Too funny dude & it would be even funnier if it wern't true

You think he'll look for a chick to be head coach??? Maybe Amy TRask huh

Or BlitzChick, She know football better than most guy I know.

She'd no doubt work cheap? (an al davis special)

And what ever happens we won't expect her to learn coaching in a year or two so... everyone wins.

Actually I'll put my money on her better than anyother Nobody coach Al finally winds up bring in.

Why doesn't Al Fire himself for being stupid. Al was a great leader in the 60's. Those days are long but over. I love the Raiders! But I want them to loose every game by at least 3 touchdowns. Just so Big Angry AL gets a clue.. But I don't think that will ever happen.. Here is to the Raiders loosing the rest of their games while AL is Charge!!!

God Please help the Raiders!!

That is all we have left as a Raiders fan is a Prayer

When it comes to anything the Media ever has to say about the Raiders your best bet is to believe only what you see or has already happened....I'm Suprised the media hasn't tried to link the Raiders to 9/11 or the Simpson murders...... Does anybody honestly think Al would leak it out he's looking for a reason to fire Cable and not pay him? It's just plain and simple Raider trashing disguised as news....

Brian you're absolutely right about Cable. He's just a big SLUG who got in WAY over his head! As for Payton, just another hater!!. If you've ever heard Gruden speak you would know that he still loves the Raiders just by the things he says. As for Holmgren, who would want that loser anyway. Didn't do a damn thing in Seattle. Only reason he won at Green Bay was cuz he had a future HOF Qb. He himself said that it takes 5 years to learn how to run his offense. Who the f**k has 5 years to learn an offense? Cowher? It took HIM over 10 years to finally win a SB. Considering all the great talent he had at Pittsburgh, that doesn't bode well for him. Shanahan, is another loser who won ONLY cuz he ALSO had a future HOF Qb. All those years at Denver and only 2 SBs. Troy Aikman won 3 in half the amount of time so Shanahan sucks too. Let's see if Brian Billick or any other high-profile coach sez no to Davis when he opens up his fat wallet and offers any of them 6 mil a year to coach the Raiders. As a matter of fact, I really think Billick would jump at the offer if only to prove to the Ravens his worth!!!

I know everyone wants to get rid of Al Davis, I know the guy has lost his football awareness. But with that said if Al gives up control of the Raiders Org. Oakland would lose the Raiders for good. Oakland is not a big enough nor wealthy enough area to support the team the way the league would like. If Al goes you could welcome the Raiders back to L.A. A much larger fan base and without a team L.A. would bring more $$$$$$$$$$$ and thats all a new owner/G.M would be concerned with.

Ok, is anyone out there besides me tired of this guys freak show?? Who the hell does he think wants to coach this miserable team??

Firing a man over alleged activities from a year ago is weak and intolerable. At least he still wants to be the coach of the Raiders. Leave him alone.

What's he got to work with? A demented overly egotistical owner, a joke of a QB in Russell and a psychologically beaten down team.

Give me a break.

GD, you could not have said it better. It is TIME for Al to go one way or another. It has become an issue for the NFL now and this current team taking the field is an embarrassment to everyone who plays the game.

When Howie Long and Rich Gannon say this team is a joke, people need to listen. Both were stellar players and know what they are talking about.

Where is the commissioner?? Would the league stand by and watch the Cowboys or Patriots in such decline?? Hell no. The Raider hatred has gone on long enough, stop punishing fans and players because of Davis's blindness.
