Middle linebacker was fined for helmet-to-helmet hit on Ochocinco last month Aaron Wilson
CINCINNATI -- Baltimore Ravens All-Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis has no intentions of altering his aggressive style after being punished by the league office in the form of a total of $25,000 in fines for his crushing helmet-to-helmet hit on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco as well as another infraction during the Ravens’ 17-14 loss last month.
“The game is always going to play out,” Lewis said. “That’s what I do, just like what he does is catch the ball. I roam the middle of the field.
“My job is to be coming in there and delivering whatever blow there is. I don’t think nothing will change. He understands if he comes in there, what’s going to go down.”
Lewis and Ochocinco are good friends, and there's no apparent hard feelings after the collision.
“We text, I talk to him, things like that, but the game is the game," Lewis said. "What happens on the field, we give each other love, give each other respect after that. Do what you do, I do what I do. After that, we’re homies and friends off the field.”
Lewis said he's often in contact with the flamboyant Bengals wideout.
"With Chad it’s always something about, ‘Give me a Bible scripture. Give me something to read. Give me something to focus on,’" Lewis said. "Maybe something’s going bad, maybe that’s going good. Whatever. We just have conversations about it.”
When Lewis was asked if the hit left an image on opponents who dare to encroach on his territory, he replied: “Yeah, the image it left on my doggone checkbook. I’m not running by Chad [any]more.”
