Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell refused to take the blame for his substandard play that got him benched in a 38-0 loss to the New York Jets.

Although the benching isn't permanent, how Russell reacted to the setback is telling.

"Really, there was no reaction," Raiders coach Tom Cable said. "No reaction."

Russell was responsible for three turnovers, including a fumble.

Cable told reporters that Russell didn't get the offense lined up properly.

"The first interception was a matter of a guy coming across my face and getting to the spot," he said. "I tried to get it down but it was too late.

"As far as the second, I thought I gave the guy a chance to make a play on the ball, had a 50-50 chance."

russell doesnt deserve to be a quaterback in the nfl anymore. its bad enough that he plays poorly, but its even worst that he does not take responsibility for his performance. time to give someone else a change, the back up did much better and actually had some presence on the feild.

Russell does not have the leadership capabilities to truly succeed as a starting QB in the league at this stage of his career. Look at where the Raiders are right now. They have invested of ton of guaranteed money in Russell and he is not making progress. They need a starting QB in the worst way. Would they bite the bullet and possibly draft a QB in the 1st round this coming April and pay him a boatload of guaranteed money? I don't know, but the starting QB position in Oakland is in serious trouble with JaMarcus Russell.

Jamarcus Russell should be the face of that franchise . An undisciplined fat guy with alot of potential who is completely devoid of responsibility & leadership . He is the perfect face of that franchise . Just spiral downward baby !

You know your QB is really bad when he explains an INT by saying he gave his WR a 50-50 chance to make a play, but the WR failed him. So basically what he is saying is he threw a hail mary to a guy in single coverage, but the WR let him down.

It is Halloween. The time of of playing with squirmy things like vampires. Or looking at dumb assed football teams that are under the influence. Thank you Jets. The Eagles forgot to bring the magic stake. Prepare yourself 's in San Diego. Perhaps you can become the first team in NFL history to serve historic losses, back- to- back. Shoot for 50 to nothing into the Black Hole. Vampires need a lot of killing.

They have roughly 30 million reasons as to why he's still playing. It'd be difficult to say the least to draft someone high in the first round, pay them Stafford money and have Russell too.

Using a high first rounder on a QB is such a gamble, it's hard to believe so many teams are willing to do it. Of course, if you hit the lotto, your team is set, but if you miss, you are the next Oakland. Most teams won't be as lucky as the Titans and have a quality backup to take over, although that has soured for them too.

I like the way the Texans and Cards did it. Use your high picks on impact position players and sign or trade for a QB who has already shown he can play in the league.

Get this dude lined up at fullback already. He's big, he can run a little, and he looked a lot better run-blocking a few weeks ago than he ever has passing. (can't remember what game I was watching)

And no I'm not kidding. Might as well get something outt've that contract...
