Oakland Raiders veteran defensive end Richard Seymour wasn't pleased with how New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick told him he was being traded over the phone instead of calling him into his office to bid him goodbye.

Seymour was traded to Oakland for a first-round draft pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

"I wouldn't have handled the situation that way," Seymour told reporters who cover the New York Jets during a conference call today. "I'd at least have called him into the office and looked at him face-to-face, not over the phone. To each his own. I moved on from the situation. I wish them nothing but success."

Seymour was also disappointed to be traded shortly before the start of the regular season.

"Any time you're traded a week before the season, there are a lot of logistical things to be worked out," Seymour said. "It's a six-month process and I have to make the transition in six days. I had no clue."

Overall, Seymour said he has made a good adjustment to his new footbal tam.

"It's always a work in progress," he said. "I'm comfortable with the situation I'm in. I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a reason. I'm where I'm meant to be. My teammates have made the transition. I feel like they really need me. I really can say I feel refreshed and rejuvenated and excited about what we have over here.

"We have a good, talented football team. We need to develop that mindset. That's why they got guys like myself and Greg Ellis. We can help in a lot of different areas other than the field. You have to have that winner's mentality off the field, as well as on the field."

And the veteran defensive lineman boldly predicted that the 2-4 Raiders will make the playoffs.

"You can mark it down," Seymour said in a radio interview. "The Raiders will be in the playoffs in 2009."

Clearly Seymour has found his way to the cannabis clubs in Oakland for some "medical marijuana".

A prediction from Seymour is nice. But I would like to see if he is committed enough to the Raiders to sign a long term agreement with them.

Seymour is such a great player. He made so many big plays for the Pats, and he's a big time big game player IMO, but he's a stubborn SOB (which is maybe why he's great).

There's noway Belichick could have handled it right with Seymour. He'd have been critical no matter.

As for the contract, Seymour will sign up when it's at or over his perceived value. He's got that mercenary spirit, and that's not a guess on my part. Wait till the end of the year. He'll tell you so himself.

He signed a 4 year extension (no longer) with the Pats so he'd have another chance to score big on the free agent market.

I'm not running him down. He was very open about all this. Every last penny.

Then again when he's healthy he's worth every last penny.

I love being a Raider Fan. One of the best parts is watching how Al Davis can get is so many fans from other teams craw. They have always hated when Al Davis pulled off the Bo Jacksons, Mike Haynes, Willie Brown, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson, Eric Dickerson, Randy Moss. Max Montoya and on and on I could go.

Work out like a Haynes or Rice or not work with a Randy Moss or Dickerson it sure is sweet to listen to all the stick. It just kills people that the Raiders have Richard Seymour, just kills them. And the big guy is hoping to get a long term deal done to stay in Oakland.

I really have to laugh when I have Philly or Vikings fans talking at me. I mean come on please, what has either team ever did or ever mattered past the regular season? When was the last time the Vikings were in a Super Bowl? And Philly they talk a good game but they were dumped by the Raiders last week, the time before in Oakland they were blown out 48- 17 and lets not forget the gloey the Raiders stole from them by thumping them in the Super Bowl years ago.

Nobody remembers 8 years from now what the Vikings, Chargers or Raiders regular season records were, who cares. It is the Confrence Championship game teams up that matter in future years. Granted it is going on 7 years or so since the Raiders have been there to add to their NFL RECORD (14) AFC Championship games played to date, they have been there many a time and have mattered.

This young Raider team will matter again as they grow and will get back to the team that has caused them to have such a hate pushed their way. But Al is gold, get over it folks, Seymour is a Raider and loves the Silver and Black colors he wears and he should be a Raider until he decides it is time for him to retire.

If Al Davis passes away and the Raiders bring in a GM...maybe they have a shot. Otherwise...I can't see it.

Diana, is it warm on your planet? Big Sey is a great player, but he is no more loyal to the raiders than Bill was to him. He held out once, and basically told the Pats he would hold out again if the did not give him an extension before this contract ran out. He predicted (To Ty Warren) that he thought something was up in the preseason regasrding his status in NE. As much as Sey might hate it, he and Bill B are exactly the same, cold hearted, and first in line to do what is right by them, not anyone else.

Diana, being a Raider fan I think you have the right idea. The Raiders have been in a disaster for so long that it's probably best to live in a football world of dilusion.

Just so you know, nobody cares that Al loves scooping up over the hill players. With the exception of Bo Jackson (awesome player) and maybe one or two others, every one of those guys were over 30 when they went to the Raiders and in most cases, way past their prime. How many of those guys made the Pro Bowl with the Raiders? Or an even better question, how many Super Bowls did those "playmakers" produce....zero. Talk about a return on your investment of literally hundereds of millions of dollars. This is one of many reasons why Al Davis is the laughing stock of the league.

I love your enthusiasm though. Cute kid.

I have a request, please clip the line from Diana's post where she says Al Davis is gold and put it on NFP's front page. The comedic value is priceless. "It's gold Jerry, gold!"

I don't get why Raiders fans think that other fans care about Al Davis or the Raiders.

Professor7 you could argue that Mike Haynes brought the Raiders a super bowl however it was so long ago that you'd be excused for not remembering.
