INDIANAPOLIS -- Since the season ended, the San Diego Chargers have already cut star running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

Now, the Chargers have decided to not give all-purpose running back Darren Sproles a tender of roughly $7.3 million, according to ESPN.

That means Sproles could test free agency.

Per the report, the Chargers still are interested in re-signing Sproles depending on the price.

Where else might Sproles land?

A league source told National Football Post that the Kansas City Chiefs are rumored to be interested in Sproles' versatile ability and return skills. Sproles, who played collegiately at Kansas State, could work in tandem there with Jamaal Charles.

Sproles' potential departure could open the door in San Diego for a player like Minnesota Vikings running back Chester Taylor, Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook or Pittsburgh Steelers runner Willie Parker.

Explosive playmakers like Sproles do not come around very often. And he is also great on special teams. The Chargers are crazy if they let him go. They should pick up Taylor to run a tandem with Sproles.

Sproles' agent is trying to convince the NFL that Sproles can be an every down RB. The Chargers called his bluff but left the door open for Sproles to come back at the Chargers' price. The Chargers like Sproles but this is a cost-cutting move. It never fails to astound me how fans view roster moves like a video game especially when it's not their team they are talking about. If the Chargers trade Cromartie for a veteran RB like Marshawn Lynch or Ahmad Bradshaw (the latest rumor), then they will draft a power RB and a change of pace RB. The Chargers will then be able to sign their own free agents and improve their running game.

Mike Tolbert is not a full back. If were talking the running game we need a quality FB which would also help the screen game.
