Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell isn't being abandoned by his teammates during his horrendous season.

To the contrary, Russell has received support from teammates who have stuck up for him while he struggles.

"He's fine," defensive end Jay Richardson told reporters. "He's a confident guy. He's understanding work ethic and what it takes to be a No. 1 quarterback. He's getting there. We all have confidence in him and confidence in our scheme and what we're doing. We'll be fine."

Russell was benched for Bruce Gradkowski after throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble against the New York Jets.

Despite Russell ranking last in the NFL in passer rating, the Raiders are going back to him as the starter.

"It depends on him, depends on how he looks at it," running back Michael Bush said. "Like Cable said, he's still our guy, and we're going to get behind him the whole way."

what are they going to say, "We want to see more of Bruce Gradkowski"?

They are stuck with Russell until the offseason when they need to hope a decent QB slips past St. Louis, Tennessee, Cleveland and Washington in the draft... Unless they're really impressed with the JP Losman footage his agent is surely sending every bottom 10 team right now.

Hey, hey, hey Mr. Wilson. Not so fast. Derek Anderson has a lower passer rating than Russell.

Doesn't really matter that much, because they are both horrendous this year. But Jack is right, Gradkowski isn't the answer either. Play him the rest of the year, see if he "gets it", and if not dump him in the uncapped year.

Russell is not that bad as everyone is making him out to be. Most of his INT'S comes from his recievers breaking off their routes, and not fighting for the ball. And as for the fumbles if he had a offensive line to give him a little protection we'll would see just how good he is. And if the Raiders stick with one Offensive Coordinator(system) he would feel confident to go out and have fun on the field again, like his days at LSU. Cut him a break, he is running for his life every game.

John W III hit the nail on the head. Anyone with any football know how can see this is true.

Admit it, he was good in college, but he can't make it in the NFL. I was a season ticket holder and he is the worst QB we have had. We need to get rid of him in the off season. Put in the 3rd string. He can't be any worse than Russell

Cut you a break? What exactly does that mean... so many use it as an end-all but really, it never ends anything. and to me it just shows laziness or just a weak argument.

Russell has a horrendous work ethic, (came in FAT to training camp).

A horrible attitude (Mohawks look stupid on anyone but on him? The guy just looks confused)

One of those guys who fools himself into believing he can lead by example... Well that maybe true in a board room or maybe in basket ball but in football, especially a QB it just doesn't work SPARKY!

Besides his examples are laughable, or mostly BARF-able!

Hopefully they can play well but the dolts in their cute lil baby powder blue uniforms, I'm afraid will hand the guys another loss.

Oh that the cript keeper realize it is time to go...

Why do I get the feeling that Russell will still be playing for Oakland 5 years from now, throwing 1 touchdown and 3 picks per game and Raiders fans will still be telling us he's not really as bad as everyone's making him out to be. If he just had a better O-line he'd be great. anyone who knows football can see that.

Good football players with bad lines, occasionally show up and have good games. Good football players make the people around them look better. Good football players show improvement, and you hear stories about how much harder they work than anyone else.

Russell hasn't even managed to look good against bottom feeder teams.

Dude is a bust.

None of yall get it im not saying Russell is good but hes set up to fail why else would you start two rookie recievers, consistently throw the the ball on first down, always want to go down field, exactly what were not good at.

We won against Philly running the ball we were not out of the Jets game but kept throwing the ball even thoough the Jets could not stop the Run ( Fargus 8 carries 67 yards ) why did he only get 8 ??? Al Davis is why, the best drive we had before the half we got to the 35 in 5 or 6 plays 3 runs, tight end screen incomplete and then we got to go to the End Zone to a reciever with one on one coverage that does not even make a play on the Ball (You got to be Kidding ) and yall blame Russell. **the best quarterback in the leauge first three years looked simular (Drew Brees) and they drafted Phillip Rivers premature and had to let him walk for nothing in return.

Russel can only be as good as his LINE MEN let him be. this is a team sport. To be Number 1, you must first play as a team.

Starting with Al Davis, the Raiders whole managment organization is bad.Even with good players if your managment is bad it will reflect on the field.JaMarcus Russell is a player with a bad attitude playing for a bad team. There was nothing in place to give him any chance to succeed. However,he hasn't made things any better with his attitude and that's a big reflection on him as a player and person. Conclusion,Al,JaMarcus, and Raiders managment must go before Raiders fans will see any improvement with them.
