MOBILE, Ala. -- As the Senior Bowl kicked off Monday, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock weighed in with several impressions of the first day of action.

In an interview with National Football Post, Mayock commented on everything from University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow's rough showing to a rising Boise State cornerback.

Here are some of his remarks:

On Tebow's outlook: “I just give the kid credit for being here because he hasn’t had the chance to change any of his mechanics that need to be changed. I give him a ton of credit for embracing the opportunity as opposed to kind of hiding from everybody and saying, ‘Give me two months to change everything and I’ll show you at my Pro Day.' So, to me, he’s going to show the intangibles of leadership and toughness and all those things that coaches especially love. I think you’re going to see mechanical issues.

"He hasn’t had a chance to fix those mechanical problems. I don’t think he’s had a chance to fix that elongated motion, but I think you’re going to see leadership and toughness. You’re talking about arguably the greatest player to ever play college football and now he’s playing his tail off to become an NFL player. People say H-back, but I don’t think so. He could be big enough, but give this kid the chance to play quarterback first."

On University of Cincinnati wide receiver Mardy Gilyard: "On tape, I thought he was a pretty good football player. He reminded me a little of DeSean Jackson, very lean and quick. Part of the problem is if you watch their offense, you don’t get to see too much route trees. He’s very quick, he’s in and out of breaks.

"He dropped two or three passes [Monday], which I think hurts him a little bit. You've got to catch the football consistently all week long. I think most peole have him in the second round. You've got to solidify that and you've got to try to move up."

On who jumped out at him Monday: "Kyle Wilson, the corner from Boise State, I think he’s a better player than a lot of people thought. I have him as my second-best corner in the country. I thought his footwork, his transition out of breaks was very good. He had a couple picks in one-on-ones. I liked him a lot. I thought he looked good."

On Missouri linebacker Shawn Weatherspoon: "Weatherspoon has played both inside and outside. To me, he looks more like an outside linebacker. He’s got great speed and quickness. He mirrors the quarterback well in the passing game. He’s a solid first-round pick, and I think a lot of teams are very excited about him."
