The Houston Texans have thought it over, and they have decided to take a pass on former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

Cut by the Chiefs on Monday after being suspended for conduct detrimental tothe team for critical comments of coach Todd Haley and anti-gay slurs directed toward fans and reporters, Johnson had been linked to the Texans.

However, the Texans have decided to maintain the status quo for now with Ryan Moats, Steve Slaton and Chris Brown, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Texans have also explored the possibility of adding Edgerrin James before deciding not to sign him.

"We took all the factors into consideration, football, off-the-field issues, and we determined that it wasn't a good fit for us at this time," Texans general manager Rick Smith told the Chronicle. "We've got confidence in our backs. When we come back from our open date, we expect big things out of them."

Per the report, the Texans thought that Johnson could potentially be disruptive in the locker room.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak didn't indicate whether Slaton or Moats will start the next game.
