Few NFL draft prospects have faced as much scrutiny as LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

Between his surgically-repaired left knee after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament against Arkansas and making a speedy recovery with an impressive Pro Day workout, responding to a diluted urine specimen at the NFL scouting combine that his trainer attributed to recommended increased water intake as he dealt with deyhdration from the rehab process in this letter to the NFL, or a recent report about his back that LSU trainers said isn't problematic, Mettenberger is more than ready for the draft to finally arrive.

Three NFL teams have told Mettenberger they have him rated as worthy of picking in the top half of the second round, according to a league source.

"I'm just ready to get this whole process over with and I'm ready to get somewhere and get down to the business that I know, and that's playing football," Mettenberger told National Football Post today in a telephone interview. "As soon as that happens, it's going to be great. Whatever team gets me will get an extremely hard worker, a very tough guy mentally.

"That's just kind of how I've always operated my business. They're going to get a good guy that's going to be a leader of the team and do everything he can to help the team win."

Mettenberger passed for 3,082 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions as a senior. He finished his career with 5,783 yards, 35 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Mettenberger visited the Jacksonville Jaguars and worked out for the Detroit Lions. He had private meetings in Baton Rouge with the Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders.
