As of 2:00 pm PST I have received information from the 3rd and 4th opinion doctors regarding Al Harris' internal injury he suffered last Sunday.

Simply put, all opinions and analysis of the spleen trauma have come back with consistent results.  There is a laceration of the Spleen which, at this point, will not require surgery. The course of action is rest to promote healing.  Al will have additional CT scans taken again in a few weeks.  No other time lines have been, nor will be set until after the scans have been evaluated.  Therefore, we are in a "wait and see' mode as to how well Al heals over the next few weeks.

For Now, I want to congratulate Al on his 175th straight appearances as a NFL player. This is one heck of an accomplishment and a testament to your hard work, dedication and your professionalism.

Seemingly impervious to injury, has not missed a game in his career, playing 175 straight contests (160 regular season, 12 in the playoffs), which includes starting all 85 games the Packers have played since his arrival in 2003 (80 regular season, 5 playoffs)

In 160 regular-season games (101 starts), has 19 career interceptions among 131 passes defensed, and 412 tackles (355 solo)

All those associated with Pro Football know what a herculean feat this is for any player.

Stay tuned for more updates on Al in the upcoming weeks.

Harris is truly a warrior. But besides being a Packers fan, I also believe Harris should take care of himself. Getting more opinions, to me, means he is looking for a doctor that will tell him what he wants to hear. And that could be scary and dangerous.

I agree Jerry. Better safe than sorry.

As for another little update, Coach MM said that Al should be out for 3 to 4 weeks. This is good news. We definitely need him healthy though. I'd rather have him later in the season than too soon. Hopefully everything will turn out.

Go Pack!

Alshinard - Your place in Packer history is secure even without the 2004 INT return to KO the Seahawks in the Wild Card game. Take care to get yourself healthy!

Yeah, I really do want to see Al back in the Green and Gold but his health is #1. Honestly, I can say as a 26 year old Packer fan since birth, Al take care of yourself first.

Thanks for the direct update Jack,

Hopefully for the Packers sake, Tramon and Thrill, and Pat Lee (uh-oh) will be able to learn and improve more than be bumps in the road.

I hope Al is not rushed back and when he does come back, in November or December, he's 100% healthy and gives his team the boost it needs to get to the Super Bowl.

Maybe this CAN be a blessing in disguise as one of these young CB's can possibly learn how to be an effective CB and go back to nickel when brother Al returns.

Quote from Mike McCarthy

"I would say it's going to be at least three to four weeks," McCarthy said of a timetable for when Harris might be ready to return to the field.

Al Harris will draw from the strength of his hair and will be back this year. May the force be with you Al Harris.

As a Niners fan by birth and an anti-Packers fan by nurtutre, I can say this much: Al, take care of yourself. You're a warrior. As much I have disapproved of what you have done to my teams in the past, please take care of yourself. Your friends and family will need you long after the game is done.
