Blaine Gabbert sprained thumb

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert's positive outing was curtailed by a sprained right thumb against the New York Jets.

Gabbert underwent X-rays, but they were ruled negative.

“I just dinged it up a little bit; nothing major,” Gabbert told the Florida Times-Union. “It just got bent back a little bit. I think he tried to swat the ball and on the follow through, we bumped thumbs. It was just unfortunate but it’s part of the game. We’ll see tomorrow what the deal is and just move on.”

Before leaving the game, the former Missouri standout completed 13 of 16 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown pass. Gabbert appears to have cemented his status as the starting quarterback.

“It was good,” Gabbert said. “We got in a good rhythm early and had some tempo on the first couple drives. I just want to see more consistency.”
