I admit to having a soft spot for Mike. He’s one of the good people in the league and I root for him to win. I was hopeful the Seahawks would send Mike out the same way Marquette did former basketball coach Al McGuire, winning the national title in the last game he coached.
Since returning to the starting lineup in Week 6, Jeff Garcia has been among the top quarterbacks in the league. In his eight starts since then, he has completed 169 of 251 pass attempts for 1,909 yards, 8 touchdowns, one interception and has a quarterback rating of 98.8.
The Saints provide us with the content to do a little draft breakdown today. They currently have a strange front office set-up in terms of who makes the final call on the draft.
The Bears have to disrupt and alter the timing of the Saints’ passing game. They cannot allow free access all night. This game will feature two teams that understand the importance of winning on first down.
Dallas played its heart out, and this week the Cowboys head home to play the Giants in a must-win game. You know my feelings about the after effects of playing the Steelers: The toll and physical nature of the game has an impact the next week. This will be interesting to watch.
I think what Reid learned after that game was that McNabb needs help – help from a running game and help from his wideouts – and that the burden of winning can’t be placed on the power of his right arm alone.
The New York Giants have won seven consecutive games, with their last six coming against teams with winning records. With a victory over Philadelphia on Sunday, the Giants can tie the 1970 Minnesota Vikings for the all-time record of most consecutive wins in a season against teams with winning records.
Thursday night means football, and here in the Tavern it means some draft study. Today’s target is the San Diego Chargers as they play the Hotel tonight in an AFC West showdown.
The more LT runs, the fewer points the Chargers will score. He cannot make a big play right now and has no burst or power in his lower body. But where he is really hurting the team is in the passing game; he used to be good for one big play a game from the passing game.
I think the speed of the Pittsburgh defense is amazing, and playing on Field Turf only enhances it. Given how fast the Steelers played, Coach Mike Tomlin is probably telling Dan Rooney to consider putting it down in Heinz Field.
