From IndyStar.com:
Just forget what you read in The Star today. Not my fault, thought, that I spent half of my Tuesday writing a story about how excited Tyjuan Hagler is about having another opportunity to start on Sunday.
This just in, I guess the story was all wrong.
Colts coach Tony Dungy reversed his Monday position today in naming Buster Davis as the middle linebacker to replace Gary Brackett, who has a broken bone in his lower leg and is probably out for the month (my conservative guess).
I have no clue about this. I'm actually flabbergasted, as I'm sure Hagler is. Hagler was jacked up about the chance to play more. Instead, it looks like the nine-game starter these past two seasons is headed back to playing special teams.
What little I know about Davis is he is 5-9 and 239, a wider body than any other LB on the roster, and he was initially a third-round pick out of Florida State. But Arizona cut him at the end of his first training camp. It's not too often a third-round pick can't keep a job for at least a season, or at least play in a game.
Worse yet, Davis moved on to Detroit's practice squad, where he stayed from Sept. 4 to Dec. 18 last season, then was cut again. Doubt that coming from a franchise that is now 0-12 is anything worth mentioning.
Dungy said Hagler was nicked up, but I respectfully disagree it has anything to do with this. I spoke to Hagler Tuesday and he repeated he was fine, he was sound, he was ready to go.
Go ahead and dismiss my final summation, but I'm willing to speculate this has more to do with Freddy Keiaho getting dinged up, because Keiaho was to play middle with Hagler on the weak side. If Keiaho can't go this week or is limited, the Colts obviously didn't want to put it on Hagler, who is in a contract year and realizes his time with the team is likely coming to an end.
In other news, no interview from Bob Sanders, so I don't know if he will play, although Dungy makes it sound like this is the week. WR Roy Hall said he thought he would play last week, so he's more sure this week, but not 100 percent. Jeff Saturday is still a week away. DT Keyunta Dawson will miss two weeks with his hamstring injury.
Dungy said Brackett would miss two weeks, which seems like a pretty convservative number at this juncture.
