From Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune:

TAMPA - In a sweeping move, the Bucs on Wednesday released LB Derrick Brooks, WR Joey Galloway, WR Ike Hilliard, LB Cato June and RB Warrick Dunn.

GM Mark Dominik will address the media on the moves later today.

Bucs GM Mark Dominik informed Galloway's agent of the plan this morning while Coach Raheem Morris informed Galloway.

The move opens a spot at wide receiver for the Bucs, who also stand to lose Michael Clayton through free agency.

The National Football Post has learned that these moves create an additional 14M in Salary Cap room available for the Buccaneers, meaning the team will now be close to 60M below the NFL Salary Cap, an unprecedented amount never before seen in the history of the Cap.

The Bucs looking to draft a WR? Sure looks that way unless they re-sign one of these guys.

Class act to call a player up personally. Moore is trying not to burn bridges. This business aspect of the game shouldn't get in the way of being good to people.

Well that will pay for the money they still owe Chucky and the GM....

Sounds like the Glazers want to save dough...

Theodork Thompson is too stupid to sign Derrick Brooks. He'd have to make room by cutting one of the piles of crap he drafted. Watch Brooks turn up in Pittsburgh playing for Mike Tomlin.

I have a feeling that Brooks will hang it up. My question is this: How did Barber avaoid the axe. He is a Cover 2 corner and that is not what Bates wants to play. Once the Bucs sign Buchannon, barber will be next.

I don't think Barber is going to start anymore. Probably just play the slot in nickel.

Expect Bucs will go hard after Vilma to play OLB. Geno Hayes, who was already taking playing time away from Brooks last year before getting hurt, will start at OLB also.

Brooks couldnt crack the steelers starting lineup on D.

This is no surprise. They basically cut everyone older than their new head coach. When the Steelers signed Tomlin, there first move was to cut Joey Porter. This allowed Tomlin to have control of the locker room and made it clear who was boss. They also had James Harrison waiting.

Morris had to get rid of Brooks, Dunn and the others. He couldn't have people around that are more qualified to be the head coach than him. Brooks taught Morris everything Morris knows but Brooks didn't teach Morris everything Brooks knows. Brooks owned the locker room and now I don't think they have anyone capable of leading the team including Morris. Morris and Dominik talk a good game but I doubt they have the experience to actually do anything. The Glazer's will not spend all this money and Morris and Dominik will be gone in one or two years. Then they will bring some other patsy's to silence the fans again. The Buc's are done. I will let my season tickets go, BYE BYE!
