Cardinals place Beanie Wells, Jeff King on PUP list

The Arizona Cardinals are without two key members of their offense as they open training camp in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Running back Beanie Wells and tight end Jeff King have been placed on the active physically unable to perform list. Both starters failed their physicals, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Wells is still working his way back into playing form following offseason knee surgery, and coach Ken Whisenhunt said this was expected. King suffered a partially torn quad tendon working out during the offseason.

The good news is Whisenhunt said both players will be healthy before final cuts meaning they won’t have to be sidelined for at least the first six weeks of the season, per PUP rules.

Wells needs to get on the field as he will be in a competition with Ryan Williams, a second-round pick from last year, for a starting job.
