Chiefs TE Sean McGrath to retire

The Chiefs will be without last year's fill-in contributor at tight end — and the rest of the NFL will be too.

On Saturday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that tight end Sean McGrath has decided to retire, via the Kansas City Star. McGrath is 26 years old and seemingly in the prime of his career. Then again, sometimes someone's heart is no longer in the game and the need to pursue other interests becomes apparent.

With the Chiefs going through a ton of injuries at the tight end position early in 2013, they claimed McGrath off waivers from Seattle on Sept. 1. He ended up catching 26 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns. While he wasn't a flashy player, and used more as a blocker, he did quickly become a fan favorite in Kansas City.

Follow me on Twitter: @JasonHButt
