Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that Clemson University may be interested in hiring current Tennessee Volunteers head coach Philip Fulmer to fill the vacancy left by Tommy Bowden.  Fulmer will not be back at Tennessee next season.

In addition to Fulmer, we are hearing that current Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville may become a candidate for the Clemson job as well.  Click here to see more.

I hope Coach Fullmer gets the job and shows everyone what a great coach he is.

Go ahead and take him, I'll bet money he demonstrates what kind of coach he really is, and, sorry Bill, but not great, not even adequate.

I wish coach Fulmer the best. I hope that his termination has caused him to view his performance as lacking and he can find ways to return to his winning ways of the late 90's. He is capable. He just has not lived up to his capabilities in a long time. Phil, you hit the snooze alarm on your wake up call too many times. You have been driven from the position you loved because of complacency. Stand up, make changes, and make Clemson proud if that is where you wind up!

The complacency caused by winning the National Championship took 10 years to hit rock bottom. Maybe it wakk him up enough to motivste him for one more shot. It has been so long that he has been a excellent coach, it may never happen.

It would be a heckuva steal for Clemson. Between Fulmer, Tommy Tuberville and Bobby Johnson, they're going to have hard decision to make, if all three would actually go into that snakepit. Like our Tennessee fans, the Clemson fans can be mighty delusional. But don't we all look fine in bright orange!

You guys would be the biggest idiots in the NCAA if you hire Fulmer. His biggest rivalry would be Spurrier. Read your history.

I don't see Fulmer leaving his home in Maryville & moving to Clemson. It's way to far to travel back & forth. Furthermore, I don't think the fire is in him to coach anymore. He certainly doesn't need the money.

Lets look at the facts since they dont lie. Since 2002, Tennessee is 55-32. A 63% winning percentage. Of those 55 wins, 36 have come against Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Miss St., South Carolina and lower level Division 1 schools, such as Ark St, UAB, Duke and Northern Illinois to name a few. 7 years of mediocrity. There is definitely a need for some fresh new ideas on the football field.

Lets try something that doesnt come out of the 20 year old playbook. Everyone has caught on to the scheme.

And last but not least we are 8-13 against Georgia, Florida and Alabama since 2002. Alabama has been worthless up until 2 years ago.

It's true that Coach Fulmer has dropped off some in recent years but much of that stems from great recruiters taking over in Georgia, Florida, Alabama and LSU.

Fulmer is a great recruiter and players will play hard for him. But East Tennessee doesn't have any high school talent compared to South Carolina. Coach made a bad hire last year with Dave Clawson, whose offense didn't have a prayer in the SEC. That cost him his job, even though he had a top 5 class committed before the firing.

Not only do you get Fulmer, you might get John Chavis as defensive coordinator, who the NFL has tried to lure away from UT for years. Both these guys have great ties with S.Carolina high school coaches.

UT fans forget how great it was watching Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Big John Henderson, Peerless Price, Dante Stallworth and Albert Haynesworth run through the T on Saturdays. You guys could get a class act who won 150 games in 16+ years.

I would like to say AMEN to the comment about Phil's willingness to finish the recruiting for the year, since he has always talked about how he loved the university. Could it be that he, like so many guys, had come to believe that the program was about him, instead of the university? Most coaches would have been let go long before they let the program decline for 10 years to the point that they cant beat anybody.
