STRENGTHS - Giordano gets off the snap cleanly and is consistent in getting off the snap quickly. He uses the punch technique well which enables him to create separation from the OL and he is able to get low and turn the corner to get into the backfield. He is physical at the LOS and has the ability to knock the OL back. He is alert at the line and does a good job keeping his eyes on where the ball is and shows good awareness and the ability to react quickly to the direction of the run. Good footwork combined with his punch enables him to get inside on the OT well. He is a highly competitive player.
WEAKNESSES - While Giordano shows some pass rush moves he is very limited in what he can do. He lacks the speed to threaten the corner as a speed rusher, so therefore will not be a guy that you can count on to pressure the QB consistently. He lacks top speed and is not a guy that will be able to run down a ball carrier in backside pursuit. He does not show the quickness or speed to be able to pick up a RB out of the backfield and cover him well in man coverage.
SUMMARY - Giordano showed the ability to get to the QB in college but lacked the necessary finish in the backfield. While he showed the ability to get off the LOS cleanly and his quick hands and ability to get low and around the OL, he was often unable to finish. He needs to become a much more polished pass rusher and will have to become much more consistent in using pass rush moves. He has very good ability in reading the run and reacting well to the direction of the run and is able to break freely from blocks to get to the ball carrier. His eyes always seem to be on the ball which enables him to locate and react quickly. His speed is questionable and will struggle to make plays on backside pursuit, but he does have the ability to close quickly. Overall, Giordano's lack of edge pass rush skill will likely keep him from being drafted, but he would be a solid free agent signing. His toughness, competes, size and play against the run give him a chance to make it as a backup defensive end and special teams player.
