STRENGTHS - Bloomfield gets off the snap quickly and shows very good play recognition that gives him the ability to get to the ball quickly. Flips hips quickly and has the ability to play in press man coverage and shows the ability to maintain coverage down the field. Has good presence in the run game and will force a runner to go a certain direction instead of over pursuing and missing the tackle. Takes good angles down the field when runner gets past the 2nd and 3rd level. Has good closing speed when coming up to make a tackle, but this is something he could improve on.
WEAKNESSES - Backpedals quickly but would like to see more explosion off his turn out of man coverage. His zone coverage is questionable as his speed in the open field is questionable and his sideline to sideline speed is questionable and his footwork when changing direction could improve as he needs to develop quicker feet in order to react quicker if biting on a pump fake. Needs to become stronger to be able to break from more blocks and get to the ball quicker.
SUMMARY - Bloomfield gets out of his position quickly and reacts well to the play. He turns his hips well and has the ability to maintain coverage in press man to man, but his zone coverage needs to improve as his quickness and speed is questionable in the open field and footwork when changing direction needs to improve. Has the ability to play the run well and he does not over pursue on the runner and will concentrate more on containing the runner so that he does not break a long run. Needs to become stronger and more physical to break from blocks in the open field. When he is able to break and close on the runner he shows very good tackling skills. Overall, Bloomfield lacks the ideal height for a safety and lacks the elite speed/athleticism to make up for it. That is why I would not draft him and would sign him as a free agent to see if he can develop into a quality backup safety/cornerback and special teams player.
