SUMMARY - Corey Grissom looks the part of an NFL nose tackle because of his wide frame and natural leverage, but his significant athletic limitations will prevent him from playing at the next level. He is consistently slow off the LOS, which allows blockers to get into him quickly and control him at the POA. He looks stiff trying to change directions, and lacks the speed and agility to make plays away from him. Numerous times in games I evaluated, he was torqued and tossed to the ground by single blocks; a result of poor hand usage and an inability to utilize his length effectively. Because of his limited acceleration and agility, he is ineffective on the pass rush and was often subbed out in 3rd down situations at South Florida. One additional glaring weakness in his game is his lack of instincts, as he struggles to read and react quickly, and is often fooled by PA fakes and struggles to recognize and protect himself against cut blocks. Grissom could get a camp opportunity as a free agent for a 34 team looking for a 2-down run defender inside, but with his poor instincts and limited athleticism he is unlikely to make it beyond the first round of cuts.
