FETI UNGA ILB, Oregon State

STRENGTHS - Unga shows fairly solid awareness and reacts well to the play. Unga shows the ability to fight off blocks at times, using his quick hands to create separation from the defender. When he is able to square up the ball carrier he is able to make very good form tackles and wraps up nicely. Unga has very good closing speed and his quickness also allows him to make plays in backside pursuit. His awareness combined with quickness allows him to recognize and pursue the RB out of the backfield and showed he could get into coverage quickly.

WEAKNESSES - Unga has slow footwork, which does not allow him to slide well and therefore is unable to square up the tackler on a consistent basis. When he is unable to square up, he has a tendency to get a hand on the ball carrier but miss the tackle. He is also unable to change direction quickly or smoothly and does not have very good speed sideline to sideline. Unga does very poorly in coverage as he does not flip hips quickly and can be turned around easily and does not have the speed to recover and keep up with the receiver. Unga has a tendency to play high and needs to bend knees more in order to explode to the ball carrier more effectively.

SUMMARY - Unga is a guy that plays with awareness and can be a very physical player. He shows the ability to break off blocks effectively and close on the ball carrier quickly. His awareness and quickness allow him to get to the RB quickly in coverage. His coverage skills need a lot of work as he gets turned around quickly and does not have enough quickness in flipping his hips to be able to recover well on a false step. When Unga needs to adjust on the ball carrier when he is unable to square them up, he struggles and has a tendency to miss tackles. Unga rarely shows and moves in order to shed blocks and get into the backfield for tackles and relies heavily on strength to shed the blocks. Against the run he does very well in keeping his eyes focused on the runner and recognizing where the ball carrier is going. However, he has a tendency to play high and lack of knee bend makes him unable to explode more to the ball carrier. Overall, Unga has solid quickness and speed and can be a physical player when he wants to be. Unga grades low, but is a player that could find himself in a training camp.
