STRENGTHS - Williams gets off the line quickly and shows solid route running skills, although they could be crisper. He has quick footwork enabling him to plant quickly on slants or routes over the middle, creating space from the DB or LB. His speed and quickness allow him to get open and catch the ball in space. He has solid speed in space and can pick up decent YAC. Shows that he can get down the field quickly. Has good hands and when he is able to catch the ball in stride he can gain solid yardage.
WEAKNESSES - Williams needs to become a more physical player. While he showed the ability to block physically, he seemed hesitant quite often. He needs to become a better blocker in open space to give the ball carrier more of an opportunity as DB's and LB's tend to break his blocks easily. He tends to be careless with the football, needs to learn to keep the ball closer to his body, especially when facing contact.
SUMMARY - Williams is a small frame WR that was not an every down receiver in his senior season. He has the quickness to explode off the line of scrimmage and shows discipline in his routes. He has the speed to get by the 2nd level on short passes over the middle and he shows the ability to go deep down the field. He also returned kicks and showed very good speed when given a lane to run through and open space. While he has quick feet and solid footwork, he does not show the ability to make guys miss often to break for a big play in both receiving and kick / punt returning. He has good hands and when he catches the ball in stride he has the ability to make a defense pay, but I do not see him doing this consistently enough at the NFL level. Overall, Williams was not even a full time starter as a senior in college, so I cannot recommend drafting him.
