JOSH WADE CB, San Diego State

STRENGTHS - Wade is a thick, well defined cornerback who has the size and physicality to help against the run. He has thick legs and calves and looks the part. He is a willing tackler, and a player that can deliver a big jolt while securing the ball carrier with his arms. Wade is reliable supporting the run.

WEAKNESSES - Wade doesn't have great recognition skills as evidenced by a play against Hawaii. Lining up at his own goal line, he allows a receiver to drive him so deep into the back of the end zone that the receiver turns and runs to the pylon for an easy score because Wade can't recover from how deep he was. He doesn't have good footwork which complicates bad decisions. During his backpedal, his feet can be too close together and it leads to an extra half-step before he can get out of his break. Wade missed the entire 2011 season with an Achilles injury.

SUMMARY - Wade is a well-defined, sturdily built cornerback. He does a good job against the run as he wraps well while delivering the blow. He doesn't take great angles and needs to improve on his awareness and recognition. He is not good in coverage and struggles with his footwork, allowing himself to get too deep in his drop. He doesn't have the closing ability to give as much cushion as he does, and he allows too many easy throws in front of him. Wade doesn't show elite speed or the ability to flip his hips and run with his man, and his struggles only get bigger in the NFL. Wade will have to be a special teams ace if he is going to make a roster, which is why he is not a draftable prospect. He is best suited to be signed as a free agent because he has not shown the skills to contribute as a cornerback at the NFL level. .
