From Denver CBS4:

CBS4 Sports has learned Jay Cutler and the Broncos have finally spoken.  It was not face-to-face, but rather by conference call on Monday with Cutler, head coach Josh McDaniels and owner Pat Bowlen among those on the line.

The much awaited discussion was prompted after the now well-publicized events on the first weekend of free agency.  The Broncos explored a possible trade that would have sent Cutler out of town for former Patriots backup Matt Cassel.  The trade never happened and Cassel eventually ended up in Kansas City.  The Broncos denied they initiated any trade talks, but Cutler was certain the team tried to move him.     Sources close to the situation tell CBS4 Sports that the tone of the discussion was not exactly "make nice" as might have been expected.  We're told McDaniels made it clear to the quarterback how the team will be run, and how Cutler was expected to fit into that plan.  McDaniels reiterated the Broncos position that they have no intention of trading Cutler, but he also made it clear that all players are being constantly evaluated and could be traded if management thinks it will make the team better. The Broncos expect Cutler to report to Dove Valley next Monday, when the Broncos begin voluntary offseason workouts.
CBS4 Sports has also learned that Bowlen attempted to contact Cutler last week, but he was unsuccessful.

I am a lifelong Broncos fan, and I am tired of Jay Cutler's petulance. What McDaniels told him on the phone was what any NFL coach should believe. The fact that anyone is supporting Cutler in this shows that Broncos fans got as complacent and non-focused on winning as Shanahan himself. A real QB would have said nothing, shown up for off-seasons, and tried to prove the new coach that he had what it took to win. This kid needs to grow up or go.

Name one starting QB who you think would "have said nothing, shown up for off-seasons. and tried to prove the new coach that he had what it took to win." They just don't exist - these guys have big egos and are used to being the main guy that everybody on the team looks to. From Donovan McNabb, to Drew Brees in SD, to Jeff Garcia everywhere he's been, QB's that get disrespected by their front office will always react publicly - its managements responsibility not to screw up their relationship with their QB. The Broncos dropped the ball on this one, if they were going to make their move for Cassell, they had to land him and get Cutler out of there.

And other Broncos fans aren't complacent - you are spoiled by the fact that the Broncos always have a QB who doesn't automatically eliminate that team from contention. Hell I'd take Jake Plummer and Brian Griese over most of my team's (Jets) QBs for the last 20 years.

Trust me, if the Broncos blow it with Cutler, they and you Broncos fans will regret it, and another team will reap the benefits for the next 10 years. There are a handful of QBs who can win in this league without a defense like the Steelers, Ravens, or Giants, and you have one... Stop crying about his "petulance."

Jeez, do they have to have a "soothe the ego" meeting with every player that comes up in trade talks?

Take your skirt off Cutler and win something....

Note to all Cutler supporters. NFL is a business. Its all about winning and making money. I can understand Cutler wanting to protect himself, but you NEVER go public in NE. That kills the team and your reputation. A team is not made of friends. It is built each year and past records mean nothing.

The Coach is the boss. The Coach makes the decisions. If the owner steps in -- well we see what happens. Dallas, Oakland, and Washington.

Meaning? I get the McDaniels/Cutler sitution is part Anti New England kick back. Many see McDaniels as an unproven Belicheat disciple. Fine. Your opinion. However going to the media with your opinions is not the way to handle them. We make fun of McNabb when he does it. Or T.O. It just divides the locker room. It is not about who is right or wrong. They are adults and should handle it quietly.

Some probably don't remember when Bledsoe got benched and then Traded by the Patriots. The same Bledsoe who took the Patriots to a Super Bowl. He was quiet all year when traded to the Bills he let his play do the talking.

Johnson came out with his "tell all"
after retirement and I am not sure how the two situations relate? He was a great player and now suffers like many other players from after effects of a violent sport that we all follow. You can blame that on "Evil Belichick" all you want. Whatever makes you feel good.

Space, do you think BB was talking about trading Brady after his 3rd year? This is the problem, McDaniels wanted Cassel, but didn't think about the fall out if that trade failed. BB would have NEVER let that happen. He would have been thinking 2 steps ahead. Instead we have a 33 year old that thinks he is as smart as BB but has so far been a disaster. I know you NE types want to defend him but he has only been an OC for a couple of years. Oh by the way, Elway went to the media and complained about his relationship with Reeves. Bowlen fired Reeves and Elway stayed to win 2 superbowls. You win Superbowls with QBs and great coaches. I am sure you NE fans will agree with that statement.

Why don't we just ask Chicken Cutlet who he wants to hire as his coach? That would solve everything.....

McDaniels has the right to run the organization as he sees fit, imho. If he thought bringing in a QB that knows his system, and more importantly, understands the culture shift (NE style) that they will try to create in Denver, so what? It made sense to him. And, let's be honest here, Cutler is not Brady, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger or heck, McNabb or Rivers either. Imo, he is a young and somewhat talented QB, but not deserving of his pro bowl vote last year. And, more importantly, he is not a proven winner. So, imo, he is on par with a one-year wonder like Cassel. The familiarity put Cassel above Cutler in McDaniel's estimation. Not saying that I agree (I'd probably choose Cutler and boy would I love to have Cutler playing for my MN Vikings), but the reasoning does make sense to me...

Love the invalid codes, even when you get it right - nice spelling of "secutiry" too. :)
