The Texans’ offense is on fire right now, and I like Houston in an upset this week. My bet is that the Titans put a lot of emphasis on Andre Johnson and the pass, meaning Slaton could find some lanes. Derek Belch
Wow, what a rough week. Zero correct, and with only three weeks left it’s not looking good to even come close to six at this pace. Congratulations to last week’s top pickers: Dave and Ramon Ramirez. But should we really congratulate them for getting ONE out of six correct? Ramon had Matt Ryan and Dave had Peyton Manning. A look at last week’s top six:
T1. Brian Westbrook
T1. Antonio Bryant
2. DeAngelo Williams
3. Colts D/ST
4. Matt Schaub
T5. Peyton Manning
T5. Matt Ryan
T5. Jonathan Stewart
T5. Cardinals D/ST
T5. Steelers D/ST
What’s strange is that we had three big names in the top six –- Westbrook, red-hot DeAngelo Williams and Peyton –- yet only one person had any of them!?!?!? Very strange. I guess matchups don’t matter, because Westbrook against the Giants and Williams against Tampa Bay were certainly not enticing. I’d also like to give a shout-out to Antonio Bryant for putting up an unreal Monday Night performance and knocking me out of the playoffs in one league by ONE point. I’m sure there are several of you with similar tales. Thanks, buddy. Good luck to everyone this week in what’s officially playoff time for all leagues! My picks below:
Kurt Warner, QB, Arizona: A big game for the Cardinals’ playoff seeding. Minnesota is very suspect in the secondary. A big day for Warner.
Steve Slaton, RB, Houston: The Texans’ offense is on fire right now, and I like Houston in an upset this week. My bet is that the Titans put a lot of emphasis on Andre Johnson and the pass, meaning Slaton could find some lanes. Even if Tennessee shuts down the run, Slaton has a lot of value as a receiver.
Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville: With an injury to Fred Taylor, MJD will get all the carries this week. The Packers have been awful on defense for the past month. I could easily see one of MJD’s signature three-touchdown games.
Brian Westbrook, RB, Philadelphia: He’s on fire. He plays on Monday Night football this week in a must-win game. He plays the Browns.
DeAngelo Williams, RB, Carolina: Why is this the first time I’m putting him in my pick six all year the way he’s been playing? Because I’m stupid. He gets Denver this week. Truthfully, it doesn’t matter who he plays, as we saw Monday.
Tyler Thigpen, QB, Kansas City: The spread offense has been kind to Thigpen and fantasy owners, and San Diego has the worst pass defense in the league. Plus, the Chiefs are a good home team in December.
A few to be skeptical of … (three-for-three last week)
Derrick Ward, RB, NY Giants: Ward is a definite start this week if Brandon Jacobs is out, but Dallas’ defense has been playing great recently.
Jay Cutler, QB, Denver: Three interceptions in a blowout loss at Carolina. You heard it here first.
Randy Moss, WR, New England: He’s probably going to be covered by Nnamdi Asomugha in this game. Did you know that going into last week, Asomugha had been thrown at just 14 times, with 5 complete passes? That’s filthy.
