From Ed Werder of ESPN.com:

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.

Favre has not been working out and declined to have surgery to repair the torn biceps tendon that plagued him the final month of last season.

Favre may believe the injury can heal on its own as did a similar problem with his left shoulder while he played in Green Bay. Favre wanted to play for the Vikings last season, but the Packers specifically eliminated their NFC North rivals as a potential destination for the Green Bay icon.

Ziggy,

Please sign this NFL version of A-Rod and cleanse all of sacred Packerland of this petty selfishness once and for all. He's a fool............

I think this is all about Brett thinking he deserves a pass from ota's and mini-camps. Pack said he had to show for those. He said, "I'll show you, I'll retire." Magically, right after the mini-camps were over he got the itch. He never did that well in dome stadiums, but he would be an improvement over what the Vikings have now.

Hell hath no fury like a diva scorned. Not a very good reason to continue a seriously downsliding career. He looked pathetic and old last fall. He can't get out of the way of his pulling guards. He would need all the OTA's and training camp to get comfortable but he can't make a full season even skipping training camp. If he has to go through camp he'll be done by the second week of October.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I'm a life-long Packer Backer, season ticket holder of two seats in the "Green Package", & a disillusioned BF fan.

Brett, I don't care any more.

Ok, I must be really slow this offseason...

Why does everyone think that Minnesota is making a Super Bowl run this year?

Do they have a great RB? Of coarse.

Is the D-line great? Yes.

What about Minnesota's secondary? Meh...

Their receiving core? I'm frankly underwhelmed there.

The linebackers are average, the O-line has question marks (primarily at center and right tackle), the defensive line has no depth, and two out of three of those Pro Bowl D-linemen might end up suspended at the beginning of the season.

Let's forget the AFC and solely look at teams in the NFC. I would easily pick the Giants, Eagles, and Falcons as having better Super Bowl chances than the Vikes....with or without #4.

Oh, and one more thing Viking fans...

You only were able to beat the Lions at home because Dan Orlovsky forgot to say in bounds.

You had to rely on AP to will the team to win against the Pack at home (and even then hang on by the skin of your teeth when Crosby missed the winning field goal).

That's only two of your victories. 10-6 isn't quite as great as it sounds in the NFC North. The Vikes, the Bears, and the Pack are all in a similar place this year.

Personally, I think that Brett's been planning this for 3 years. He got his wish. Hope it's worth it. 2 more mediocre years and he trashed the bond that Packer fans felt with him.

That said... It's his life. If I could play QB in the NFL, I would. I would play 'til they told me I couldn't, and then I'd scratch and claw to get back in and play some more. Good luck, Brett, except when the Pack knocks your teeth out and you fade down the stretch, giving the Pack the NFC North title.

GO PACK GO!!

Brett Favre, is truly is a man among (vita)men(s)?

The Iron Man is a Rusty Rifle, and I should be shot for both these puns being printed(rhetorically).

Just don't aim at me and the bullet will hit a DB instead, Brett. Pretend you're passing.

I can't help it, the Cheesehead hate is contagious. You'd have thought Favre made their team miss the playoffs last year. Let's put credit where it is ripe, the Pack earned that vacation from grueling cold playoff football on their own. The cheese really doesn't stink, it has character. That's what you will say if you're eating sideline sammiches at the house watching other teams play during the post season like you did last year. It gave you a good excuse to cheer against Brett, or your second favorite team, being whoever is playing Favre.

Of course I could be wrong. You could make the playoffs and have no cheese at all. BJ Raji will eat all of that up, along with the other team's ground game and quarterback, but you could well make it just adding his presence.

Packer fans are talking pretty tough coming off a 6 win season. If Favre is old and washed up, why stress yourself out? Let the man work and do what he wants to do, where he wants to do it.

Do not forget the Vikings are the DEFENDING division champs, reading some of the comments one could think otherwise.

Minny has a nasty defense and the best running back in the game. Worry about Peterson and not Favre, remember he's old and washed up.

The article states that Favre was "deprived" of a chance to go to the Super Bowl last season because the Packers wouldn't let him go to the Vikings. He was deprived as a Jet because he threw 9 picks to 2 TDs the last five games and turned a 8-3 start into a 9-7 finish, once again leading the league in interceptions.

I look forward to Favre on the Vikings: those games will be crazy wild! Cutler on the Bears, Favre on the Vikings--let's kick it off!
