From ESPN.com:

Jon Gruden intends to coach again, but until that day, the man known throughout the NFL as "Chucky" will get to sharpen his teeth in ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth.

Gruden will join play-by-play man Mike Tirico and analyst Ron Jaworski in September, replacing Tony Kornheiser.

"This is a tremendous opportunity and I am very excited to be associated with ESPN and Monday Night Football," Gruden said in a statement released by ESPN. "I grew up a fan of Monday Night Football, and whether I've coached on Monday night or watched, I've hardly missed a game all these years.

"To join Mike and Jaws in the booth and to work alongside this top-notch team is going to be a real thrill."

The 40th season of "Monday Night Football" kicks off Sept. 14 with a doubleheader; the New England Patriots play host to the Buffalo Bills at 7 p.m. ET and the San Diego Chargers visit the Oakland Raiders at 10:15 ET.

Kornheiser decided to step down after three years of MNF.

Thank GOD. That pleases me to no end. That's the best news I've heard since they fired Dennis Miller.

This is good news...Kornheiser has been terrible on MNF from day one. I'm a big fan of having a coach help with color and analysis.

FINALLY!
Monday Night Football used to be a highlight of my week, Kornheiser made it like spending 3 hours in the back seat of my grandparents' car

MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!!!!!!!!!!
Good riddance Korheiser. Your awful insight, lewd remarks and fantasy stats will NOT be missed. Truly one of the worst commentators ever in MNF history. Gruden will be interesting. Now PLEASE get rid of the celebrity "in booth" interviews during the game! They are pointless, not to mention hard to conduct not to mention a "REAL" live game is going on!

If he's going to become the new John Madden, he's going to have to learn to say "bootleg" every other sentence. He's already worked with Brett Favre so he's on top of that.

Kornheiser deciding to step down is such a strange way of describing a swift kick in the backside.

Cya, don't the door hit ya.

As for Chucky, he won't be in Oakland on the first game. Such a missed opportunity. We still love Gruden more than anyone could ever hate him.

Will Sterling Sharpe get to work the second game? Tirico's first time covering it at prime time level was an Oakland game with Sharpe working the broadcast beside him. It was history making in that sense as well.

Kornheiser is a much, much better writer than broadcaster, and it's too bad for him and his audience that he traded in his laptop for a microphone.

Kornheiser wouldn't have been so bad, if he just didn't bring in pre-scripted storylines and beat them to death. He wanted to make bring a talkshow feeling to a football game, and didn't think it'd be distracting to the audience.

Gruden wants to coach again, so does that mean he'll be afraid to be critical of other teams' performance?

You guys are crazy. Kornheiser was the one intelligent person in that booth. Now I get to listen to Vanilla Tirico (the whitest man on earth), a fat overdramtic guy from Philly, and a dumbass in a visor (who will suck for a long time Im sure).

I hate how stupid our NASCAR America has become.
