James Franklin to be named Penn State head coach

Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is expected to become the new head coach at Penn State, according to multiple reports.

Franklin won 24 games in the past three years at Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt won bowl games each of the past two seasons.

Franklin, 41, is a former University of Maryland assistant who was being pursued for NFL head coaching interviews, including the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns.

Now, he'll remain in the college ranks and take over for Bill O'Brien, who left Penn State to become the Houston Texans' new head coach.
