Green Bay Packers starting defensive end Cullen Jenkins will be placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle sustained in Sunday’s loss at Tampa Bay. The fifth year player out of Central Michigan had 13 tackles, 2 ½ sacks, and 1 forced fumble through four games with the Packers this season. Jenkins tear is another blow to a Green Bay team that is already dealing with injuries to starting cornerback Al Harris (spleen) and Aaron Rodgers (sprained shoulder).
Ouch... starting to remind me of '05 when they had a fairly solid team and were bit by the injurt bug. Hopefully, they can just get to the bye ok and heal up... Harrell should be back in a couple of weeks, and he needs to step up.
That's a shame, because he had playing really well the first 4 weeks. The Packers really need KGB to step up and start playing like his old self, and youngsters like Jason Hunter and Mike Montgomery need to pick up their games as well.
Sean- I wouldn't expect KGB to suddenly start dominating.... I think this is a big loss, but I wouldn't pack it in just yet.
Matt, I would like to know where you got this information from because you have no source and there isn't anything about it anywhere else on the net. According to the Packers it was a shoulder injury. So until I get a verified source I believe this to be a made up story.
Cullen has been playing lights out this season so far, by far the most productive d-lineman on the team. But the biggest question marks are still on offense. No running game, o-line is becoming a liability, and quarterback seems shakey.
That is BAD news! The way things have been going, I'm just waiting for some other bad news.
Oh well, you can't control injuries.
That is bad. KGB is no longer an every down player (if he ever was) and Montgomery and Hunter arent any down players. This also really hurts as we only have 3 DTs and Jenkins would rotate in at DT in some situations. Justin Harrell needs to come back with a vengence week 7 or we are in for a very long season.
As a Packers fan, I have to say this is one of the most devastating news this season. Cullen was the only one who could generate some pass rush from the inside. Now otehr teams will focus even more on Kampman and we'll have nobody else. Every QB can now sit back, scan the field for about 10 seconds, and select whoever he wants to throw to. The one move that I told my friends about that would come back to haunt the Packers was trading Corey Williams away. That's it. No play-offs this season.
The curse of the big contract strikes again. Cullen came on like a mad man three years ago earning his big pay raise but it's been a struggle ever since. Last year he was plagued by nagging injuries which he fought through but his production wasn't anywhere near what is was before his big raise. Cullen was finally regaining his form and now this. It stinks for everyone involved.
I know you can't predict injuries but Ted Thompson sure isn't looking that smart with the likes of Justin " I haven't earned a dollar of my contract Harrell " and trading off Corey Williams during the off season. Good thing Teddy's leading the League in cap space, he may just have to spend some of it one of these days if this continues.
Matt, is this type of injury something a guy can come back from and be his old self once again ?
Samkon Gado can play DE, right?
Ryan- If I gave you my source that really wouldn't be good reporting now, would it?

Well that should just about do it. Too bad Justin Harrell is a giant bust to this point. On to 2009. The remainder of 2008 will be a nice extended training camp for Rogers if he can stay upright.
