Green Bay Packers starting defensive end Cullen Jenkins will be placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle sustained in Sunday’s loss at Tampa Bay. The fifth year player out of Central Michigan had 13 tackles, 2 ½ sacks, and 1 forced fumble through four games with the Packers this season. Jenkins tear is another blow to a Green Bay team that is already dealing with injuries to starting cornerback Al Harris (spleen) and Aaron Rodgers (sprained shoulder).
I must apologize. I was just being ignorant and didn't want it to be true. You guys beat all of the Packers websites to the punch on this one. The Packers couldn't have had worse luck on injuries this year. Dang.
ps. Ill add this site to one of my favorites so I can be the first to hear the news. Great reporting Matt, sorry about that.
Packer GM Ted Thompson traded monster DT Corey Williams to Cleveland last year for a second round pick, with which he picked QB Brian Brohm.
Brohm was demoted to third string and does not even suit up for games.
With this recent season-ending injury to DT Jenkins, Thompson now finds himself with precious little depth at that position. The Packers' run defense has been a sieve, allowing 220 rushing yards against Dallas and 175 against Tampa Bay.
Ted's recklessness regarding roster depth at the DT position is similar to his approach to the QB position, where injured QB Aaron Rodgers is backed up by a rookie seventh rounder, Matt Flynn.
All of this does not bode well for the 2008 season, which Packer fans expected to rival last season, in which the Packers just missed a super bowl appearance.
Injuries cannot be avoided and that is exactly why they must be anticipated.
The winds of change are beginning to freshen in Green Bay.
Well here's some good news for you BigJohn, Johnny Jolly's court case has been moved back so the Pack should have him for the rest of the season unless of course he gets hurt again. Packers will be lucky to finish 6-10. I can honestly say I seen it coming. To many rolls of the dice by Thompson.
I'm not a doom and gloom kind of guy, but this is really bad for the Pack. One of their biggest strengths last year was the play of the DTs last year.
The injury bug is rearing it's big ugly head now.
Scott--
Williams has been more productive than any Packer defenseive lineman this year. He is playing in a 3-4 defense in Cleveland, which does not play to his strenth. Here are the current stats:
Williams: 14 tackles 6 assists 1 sack 1 fumble recovery
Jolly: 13-3-0
Cole: 6-4-0
Picket 10-5-0
As far as Brohm is concerned, I can judge the trade now. It is a win-now league; even Ted The Weasel Thompson has said that. Brohm does not help now. He will not help for the forseeable future. So, picking him in the second round was a profound error, one of many made by Ted.
Corey Williams is rotting for the Browns.
This is a huge loss, but the rest of the players (and coaches) need to step up and get it done. How many linemen did the Giants lose from last year? You don't hear them crying about it.
BigJohn - "monster" DT Corey Williams?! I mean really?!
Hardly... he may have been solid within the rotation he played in GB, but overrated may have been a better term. He's hardly making an impact as a starter on the Browns, and you can't judge the trade yet as Brohm just needs time to develop.
The Packers had good depth at DT last season and still ran into problems putting a healthy DT combo on the field late last season. Injuries may be something you can anticipate, but at what positions exactly?! You just have to hope your depth is good and can hold up.
Yeah, Williams has not done much in Cleveland. I would not go as far as saying that he was a HUGE loss but more like a player loss at that position.

Ryan-
I hope we do not have to answer questions like that. We are well-connected on the player side, the agent side and the team side. We are not out there seeking to break news but we do run into it. I hope you can see the unique nature of this site for news, opinion, insight and content not found anywhere else.
