Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson avoided jail time through a plea agreement.

Simpson plead guilty to careless driving and third-degree DWI by refusal to submit to a DWI test, causing a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired to be dismissed.

Instead of jail time, Simpson got 120 hours of community service speaking in public schools.

He's mandated to attend alcohol seminars and placed on probation for one year with the judge staying the sentence for the third-degree DWI.

The court date stems from a Nov. 9 arrest where Simpson failed a field sobriety test after officers responded to calls about a stalled vehicle blocking the road.

Simpson, who caught 48 passes for 726 yards and one touchdown in the final season of his contract, served a three-game suspension for a felony drug charge in Kentucky.
