Lavonte David's late hit helps Jets win

It's going to be a long night for Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David.

With Tampa Bay up 15-14 with under 30 seconds remaining, Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith took off down the right sideline to get out of bounds to stop the clock.

David came running in to make a play on Smith but initiated contact a second too late. With Smith stepping out of bounds, David shoved the rookie to the turf, drawing a personal foul penalty.

This set up a 48-yard field goal attempt for Nick Folk, who converted to give the Jets an 18-17 win.

After the game, David told reporters he thought Smith was still in bounds on the play.

“I wouldn’t have hit him if I thought he wasn’t going to stay in bounds,” David said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “They said he was out of a bounds so the guy called the flag. To me, he was in bounds.”
