From Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel:

As if Dolphins left tackle Jake Long needed a raise after signing a five-year deal worth a potential $57.5 million that included $30 million in guaranteed coin. But it appears he did. He was either rewarded for making the Pro Bowl in his rookie season, a probable incentive, or it was a salary cap issue.

A message to Long's agent hasn't been returned yet and the Dolphins never comment on contracts.

According to contract figures on the NFL Players Association Web site, Long received significant bumps in each of the next five seasons.

Check out the bumps

2009 - $3.75 $6.5 M

2010  - $4.5 to $9M 2011  - $5.25 to $10M 2012  - $6 to 10M 2013    $6.75 to $10.75M

Will this deal's numbers even apply? They probably reneg this in year three or past? The guaranteed is all the counts, this other stuff is just an assurance you'll be on the market or signing for better guaranteed net results at a later time.

Great news for Long in any instance, how many tackles already signed, does it change their hopes?

He might have widened the window others have in terms of leverage this year at the same position, including competitors.

My how the Eagles got ahead of that in the pickup of Peters and Andrews....
