The NFL Players Association sent a memo to agents saying it intends to increase discipline for agents who violate policies governing contract advisors, according to a source.

Six-month suspensions for agent violations under NFLPA bylaws will now increased to an entire year.

An agent who violates the same provision that was previously disciplined for one year would now be disciplined for two years for a repeat infraction.

"The intent behind increasing the discipline is to raise the standard of conduct that is acceptable for those persons who wish to represent NFL players," the memo stated. "This is a goal that the majority of Contract Adviros who comply with the Regulations and competently serve our player membership, have been encouraging the NFLPA to accomplish."

The memo also stated that the players' union requires agents to submit all agreements it reaches with players within 21 days. If they fail to do so, they will face discipline.

The memo was met by skepticism from several agents with some noting that two times zero punishment still equals zero.

Time will tell if this memo signals lip service or a true willingness to discipline any and all agents who breaks the rules regardless of their status and client list.
