National Football Post Tavern Talk

One of the many things I respect about Bill Belichick as a coach is that when someone finds a way to attack his defense, the following week, that same plan won’t work as well. Michael Lombardi

THURSDAY TAVERN TALK…

We’ve seen a lot of 4th quarter comebacks this season – 23 to be exact – out of 73 games (32% of this year’s games have seen a team who is trailing in the 4th quarter pull out a win)

Since 1954, the only other season with a 4th-quarter comeback win percentage of at least 30.0 percent was in 1989 (33.3%).

How will the ruling affect Detroit's cap for 2009? Will the amount of ruling gets added to their cap?

The Vikes should be looking Eckel's way as well. What's you opinion of his blocking?

Westbrook does not need a lead blocker to get his yards, their other backs appear to need that. Eckel could probably fit in Reid's system as a pass outlet also.

A fullback who can outlet can be invaluable, forcing teams to loosen off their ability to bracket a TE, and giving them balance from an aspect of making the run and play pass more of a weapon.

He's rather versatile. He may not be in Zo Neal range of clearing out a run hole, but he does provide balance in what he brings to the game.

Gocong never seemed like a fit there, even with all the blitzing Johnson does. Workout warrior without a true position?

Maybe Gocong can be useful as 3-4 pass rushing OLB. I didn't understand why Eagles drafted him...

the G-Men better keep The Beast. or Mannings life could turn, well not ugly but difficult. imo

and who cares about what RB lines up in DEN except the FF-fans lol, their issues are at defense. their offense will be a pain in the butt for years though, now that they seem to have found BOTH of their OTs too to complement their skill-personel...

I think TENs defense will be in a similar hole the Ravens found themselfs when Siragusa retired, if they dont pay their Beast. hole of being average. if they sign Albert, should they re-sign Collins as well? I would. they got the cap-room and its not bad at all to have two QBs with experience on the roster in the NFL. infact, their is room for a Roy Williams or Chad Johnson/Houshmanzadah type player. so I would keep everything I have if Im TEN....

Michael - What is your opinion of Rod Marinelli as a coach? If you were hired as the Lions GM, what would you do with him?

I think he would be a fine coach if, like you have mentioned before, he simply coached, and was removed from roster and personel decisions. I love his dedication to his players and his hard nosed attitude. He truely represents the spririt of Detroit. Unless we get Billick or Cower, I don't want to go through another coaching change.

The Eagles have a FB (Jed Collins)who started a good portion of the preseason and is currently sitting on their practice squad. A lot of Eagles fans are wondering what's up with that.
