FIVE THINGS I HEAR....

1.    I hear the Broncos will narrow their list of candidates to three and then start the second interview phase sometime next week.  It’s unclear if they will add any more candidates to their search.  Raheem Morris will be one of the three...

2.     I hear the Jets interviewed special teams coach Mike Westhoff and picked his brain as a head coach candidate, asking how they can improve the team.  They also spent a long time yesterday interviewing offensive line coach Bill Callahan, and this time owner Woody Johnson was in the meeting.

3.     I hear the order in Detroit today is Jim Schwartz of the Titans, Jason Garrett of the Cowboys and Leslie Frazier of the Vikings.

4.     I hear Charley Casserly and George Kokinis are also on the list of candidates in Kansas City, assuming Scott Pioli turns down the GM job.  Kokinis may have options based on interest from Cleveland and KC.

5.     I hear Rex Ryan of the Ravens will be a finalist in St. Louis and maybe the Jets when he meets with them next week.

FIVE THINGS I KNOW....

1.     I know that Gregg Williams would be able to tailor his scheme to the Packers and make them a better defense.  He’s an outstanding coach, and the Packers’ personnel fits well into what he wants from a defense.

2.     I know that Browns QB Derek Anderson will be on the trading block very soon, and if the Browns are unable to get anyone to take him off their hands, they’ll release him before his roster bonus is due in March.

3.     I know that the Browns will also trade tight end Kellen Winslow this off-season and that he has not been a part of any discussions with coaching candidates.

4.    I know the Seattle Seahawks just hired Casey Bradley as their new defensive coordinator.

5.    I know that the Raiders will bring in Ed Donatell, the former Falcons defensive coordinator under Jim Mora, to interview for their defensive coordinator position. Obviously, this means that Rob Ryan's time in Oakland is over. And Brian Schneider, the Raiders’ special teams coordinator the past two seasons, is on his way to Seattle to interview there.

Mike,
Any news on the Raiders getting a GM? After Mark Cuban was turned down on purchasing the Cubs, I'm hoping he fixes his eyes/hopes on purchasing the Raiders. I know, I know, just let me dream. Is that so wrong?

Mike-
What kind of value can the Browns get for Anderson and Winslow?

I would think Anderson is a much higher commodity. (Minnesota anyone?!?!)

Thanks Mike and heard you on Simmons and Roda (WKNR) earlier this week. Cleveland says hello back and you should have taken Martin not Powell...

Michael,

Who do you think the Broncos will bring back for a second interview? Morris, McDaniels, Spagnuolo?

If they do add another coaching candidate I have to believe it will be Bob Stoops tomorrow morning (though I don't think he wins tonight).

Mike,

Do you have any word of where the Packers are leaning between Nolan, Williams and Moss? Who do you think would be the best fit out of the three?

Mike,

I take it that you are picking the Titans as you seem quite certain that Rex Ryan interviews next week? What happens if the Ravens win?

Nate - I think that Cuban has a small matter of insider trading to settle first.
Being a Cub fan, I would have loved to seem him buy them but for the moment, he is as bit radioactive

Ryan can still interview even in the Ravens win. I know, I know, it doesn't make sense. But the only stipulation is the coaches who have first-round byes can only be interviewed that week.

If Brady's going to be recovered in time for next season, I'd try and trade Cassel for Anderson and Winslow.

Winslow needs to restore his reputation and playing for a winning organisation with Brady throwing him the ball might help with his motivation.

Meanwhile, if the Pats are letting Cassel go, it might not be a bad idea to have a more experienced backup like Anderson. The experiment worked ok with Cassel. I wouldn't like to risk the same experiment with O'Connell or Gutierrez.

London_Ben, are you suggesting that the Pats and Browns pull off a trade sending Anderson and Winslow to NE, sending Cassel to the Browns? Why would the Browns want to trade one expensive quarterback for another when they already have one in Brady Quinn?

As a Packer fan, I can hardly stand that anticipation in the hiring of a new DC! I'm much more comfortable bringing in Williams rather than Nolan, but I, like many, am wondering if the Packers are waiting for the Eagles to get beat so they can interview Sean McDermott. The Eagles took care of the Vikings, but now they need to lose so we can keep these interviews rolling!

D.A. will not be in a Browns uniform this year and shouldn't have been last year. Would have received a high pick for him last offseason, good luck getting a third for him now. As for Winslow, I think Braylon will go before he does. Even with the attitude and off-field distractions, at least he can catch a pass. I say cut Schaffer too, with him and D.A. out of here that frees up 15 mill to throw at a quality FA (I.E. a LB, CB, DL, or RB).

Mike,

What is the latest on Rod Marinelli? (Besides that he interviewed with the Texans) Have you heard anything from the Bears camp?

London_Ben, Cassel for Anderson and Winslow?? who the heck is Cassel before this year all Cassel did was expose Brady for the system quarterback he is Winslow on the other hand is a stud nice try with that proposal.
