North Carolina suspends Austin indefinitely
In a move that was expected for many weeks, North Carolina has officially suspended Marvin Austin indefinitely from the football team.
Apparently, however, the defensive tackle will be sitting out for a reason not involving any NCAA investigation.
ICONDoes Marvin Austin have a future at UNC?
“This decision is not a part of the ongoing NCAA review,” Tar Heels head coach Butch Davis stated in a press release issued by the football program. He added that Austin had “neglected his responsibilities to the team” and was being suspended for a violation of team rules and not because of the inquiry into UNC’s academic issues and the possible relationship several players had with agents.
Austin will not be a part of the team when the Heels play LSU Saturday in Atlanta.
While the Carolina defense is widely regarded as one of the most talented and deep in the country, losing Austin certainly is a big blow. He started 12 games last year and accumulated 42 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks, six quarterback pressures, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The question remains: will Austin be the only one sidelined at the Georgia Dome?
