Oregon State WR James Rodgers done for the season

The bad news many Oregon State fans were expecting was confirmed Monday night. Beavers wide receiver James Rodgers’ season is done due to a left knee injury.

The 5-7, 188-pounder was injured midway through the second quarter of OSU’s 29-27 win at Arizona on Saturday when he was tackled in the end zone after making a 56-yard touchdown catch. The play, however, was nullified by an ineligible receiver penalty.

Oregon State head coach Mike Riley expressed his thoughts in a statement.

"We are tremendously disappointed with the news that one of our team captains and leaders is sidelined for the rest of the season. I know James will stay very involved with the team during his rehabilitation process and we look forward to his return as soon as possible."

The nature of the knee injury was not disclosed in the release.

Rodgers, who earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors in 2009, is sixth in the nation with an average of 176.75 all-purpose yards this season. Against Arizona, he had seven catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.

The senior is eligible for a medical hardship year if he decides to pursue that route. The school said it will submit paperwork to the Pac-10 for the hardship waiver at the conclusion of the season.
