Patriots IR Jerod Mayo with torn pec, re-sign Neblett
The New England Patriots placed starting linebacker Jerod Mayo on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery.
Mayo has recorded 55 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks this season.
The Patriots have already lost defensive tackle Vince Wilfork for the season.
“I think Jerod has great versatility," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said prior to the roster move. That’s what makes him such a good linebacker. He’s good in the running game and very instinctive. He’s a good tackler and he can run. He’s athletic and can play in pass coverage. He’s a very good pass defender as well.”
The Patriots re-signed defensive tackle Andre Neblett to the active roster and signed cornerback Travis Howard to the practice squad.
Neblett was cut Saturday to create a roster spot for Marcus Forston.
Howard is a former Ohio State player originally signed by the Houston Texans after going undrafted.
