From Pro Football Weekly: The Patriots could be facing a future member of their team Sunday as they take on Nnamdi Asomugha and the Raiders. Word out of Foxborough is that the Pats are primed to sink some big money into the CB position next offseason, and Asomugha, the premier cornerback set to hit free agency, could be their top target. The Patriots have shuffled through cornerbacks this season with little success, as it has become apparent that Bill Belichick’s CB-friendly system can’t simply breed quality production out of marginal players. The team’s reluctance to lock Asante Samuel into a long-term deal when it had the opportunity has come back to bite it. That notion was cemented in the Week 14 victory over the Seahawks, when Belichick was forced into starting rookie Jonathan Wilhite. Wilhite previously had difficulty carving out a role in the dime package, but substandard play from all those in front of him necessitated the call.

What are the chances the Raiders use the franchise tag on Asomugha though?

Chances are 100% they use the franchise tag Brad!!! C'mon NFP! I love this site but if you are going to report news be sure to tell people what is really going to happen. NO WAY the Raiders let Nnamdi go.

Even the Raiders aren't so stupid as to waste an available Franchise Tag on any other player, 12mil or not. They have shown they will use it every year....AND, they have nobody else! It might have been Burgess- maybe before this year - but now there should be ZERO doubt it will used for Nnamdi.

Comments Mr. Lombardi? I never worked at the Hotel as you did, but I have been a long time fan and feel like I have some perspective. Yes haters, even on the bad stuff, as plentiful as it is...

After yesterday's beatdown, I'm not sure Belichick will actually rate Asomugha that highly. He certainly couldn't cover Moss.
