Peterson believes he has a cure for fumblitis

Adrian Peterson believes he’s found the solution.

No. He hasn’t cured Percy Harvin’s migraines or found a way to ensure Brett Favre’s surgically repaired ankle will hold up for 16 games.

He does believe he’s gotten to the root of his little fumbling problem, though. Make that a big fumbling problem. In the last three seasons, Peterson has led the NFL in rushing with 4,484 yards. He’s also fumbled 20 times, losing 13 of them. That doesn’t include the two fumbles in the NFC Championship Game last season against season. Chicago Bears linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer stripped Peterson twice in 2009.

“I look forward for guys to try and tackle me and tackle the ball,” Peterson said, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “They might not be on the field too long if they continue to do that.”

It’s been an issue that will not go away from the Vikings, who could be leaning on Peterson more than they did a year ago with their jumbled situation at wide receiver. They’ll need Peterson to carry the load, at least early in the season.

“I found out at times by studying myself that when I'm going down, I kind of brace myself with the hand that I'm carrying the ball in and that's leaving opportunities for those guys that are in there scraping and punching for that ball, gives those guys opportunities to make big plays,” Peterson said, per the report. “I'm a pretty tough guy, so I just (need to) keep the ball high and just fall down. It is instincts, but when that becomes a problem you're able to sit there and say, ‘Hey, I've got to eliminate doing this.’”

Sounds like a good plan. We’ll see if it works because defenders know to go for the ball with him.
