I expect the comments section to be buzzing today because the moment we have all been waiting for is finally here. It’s time for the playoffs! While last night’s game may have been meaningless in terms of the NFL playoffs, the Jags/Texans showdown had serious implications in the world of fantasy football. How many of you guys came out of last night’s game on the right side of the action? If anyone has a good story to share, I want to hear about it. Here is an example of how my evening went: I went into the Monday night game up 7 points with nobody left to play. My opponent had MJD locked, stocked and ready to end my playoff hopes (it took a three game winning streak to get this opportunity). Needless to say, I spent three and a half hours sweating bullets as the Texans’ defense shut down Jones-Drew, paving the way for a fantasy playoff birth. In case you were curious, I’m sending a bottle of champagne and a personal thank you card to Houston’s front office today for an outstanding performance.
That being said, let’s get down to business:
PICK HIM UP
Davone Bess WR Miami Dolphins: Last week’s wide receiver recommendation was Harry Douglas of the Atlanta Falcons, who caught 3 passes for 13 yards and 1 score on Sunday at San Diego. The numbers may not have been impressive, but the touchdown made the day a success. This week we are going with a more reliable option, Dolphins WR Davone Bess. Bess’ value has skyrocketed the past two weeks due to a season-ending knee injury suffered by former starter Greg Camarillo. Needless to say, Bess is making the most of his opportunity. On Sunday at St. Louis he caught 6 passes for 84 yards, upping his two week total since the Camarillo injury to 11 grabs for 171 yards. Quarterback Chad Pennington is beginning to target Bess more in the Dolphins passing attack, giving him ample opportunities to rack up the fantasy statistics. If you are in desperate need of some wide receiver help, or have some dead weight on your bench, pick up Bess to strengthen your receiving corp. The Dolphins remaining schedule includes the Bills, 49ers, Chiefs and Jets. I figured you would like that.
Michael C: I like Denver's home matchup with KC, so i'd play Marshall. In addition, Colston has been looking good, but Moore is so hot right now it would be tough to sit him.
Joey: Don't worry about the points leader. Once you make the playoffs, its a whole new season. Good luck this week and as always, thanks for reading
Joe
Love your column and you have helped me move into first place in my division, no 2 overall, and a first round bye. But I have to call you out on your advice to bench Peyton Ellis. I would have won by a 20 point margin instead of the two point margin i won by. a win is a win, but had to let you know...keep doing what you are doing, Steve Berry is a clown!
Fridge: Right now, I love Hixon. He has stepped up big time all year in Plax's absence. Id say him, followed by Jones, Bess and Avery, although the last two are essentially tied
Michael C: oh man that sucks. The interesting thing was Sage went to him early in the game and then never looked back. I have Daniels in one league as well, and Sage has been killing him
Biebs: typical, right? It seems like there were way too many of us awake late last night sweating bullets for bulls*** plays to happen or not happen.
Utwrenn: I'd lean towards Hightower, follwed by Hixon and then McFadden.
Hellshire: i was waiting to hear from somebody about the Hillis call. My bad, and i apologize. I broke down every stat imaginaeable and didnt see that panning out the way it did.
All the credit in the world to Hillis and Denver. They were terrific on Sunday.
anyway, glad you still like the site!
Thanks for all the advice this year Joe...for the 2nd straight year my fantasy squad managed to give up 100 more points over the season than any other team in the league...so despite being the 3rd highest scoring team, i missed the playoffs (the two ties I had didn't help much either). I'll be back next year for more advice before the draft...cudos to you on telling us to draft Chris Johnson and Desean Jackson...only thing that kept me in the playoff hunt this long. Good luck in the playoffs.
justin gage, bess or mark bradley?
brandon jackson, ryan grant or jerious norwood (ret yds.)?
I think MM stated that he'd like to give jackson more carries next game. Should I just suck it up and go with the safer norwood play?
Chopper: its my pleasure and thank you for reading. that's a tough beat but we'll be sure to get you ready to avenge yourself next season. make sure you check back on the site in the coming weeks. im going to be doing more of those fantasy contests for you guys.
TV: i'd lean towards grant because of the RB points, but if ends up not being able to play, Jackson is your best bet.
tough call on the receiver. I'd probably lean towards Bess because of his remaining schedule
Hi Joe,
Who do you recommend this week:
Romo or Cassel
and at RB (no PPR)
M.Moore or K. Faulk
joe--
the newly annointed "silky smooth" steve slaton won me one i thought i had already lost last night...
i had a 3 point lead heading into monday night, with slaton left to play, but facing jags Def and sage rosenfels... thought it was over before it started.
was still down when williams forced the fumble at the jags 7 yard line... which slaton ran in on the next play, giving me the lead for good.
nice win, when i thought i had a "play-in" game next week to make the playoffs... with the win, i'm tied for my division lead, and play the guy i'm tied with... whoever loses gets the wildcard spot (we're both 9-4).
LOVE ME SOME SLATON!
(note on my love for slaton: in a different league, i actually pulled the "go" button on a gutsy trade a few weeks ago: thinking slaton would perform as well as portis down the stretch, i traded Portis for Aaron Rodgers and the Ravens... portis started pulling up gimpy the very next week... slaton has been coming on strong...)
Who would you start this week?
Hixon aginst Phil or Holmes against Dallas?

Hey Joe,
I need to pick a flex option for this week, Hightower (crappy Seattle team), McFadden (v. San Diego), Domenik Hixson, or DeSean Jackson?
Appreciate the help.
