49ers linebacker Aldon Smith promised the NFL he'd straighten up.
If he doesn't, Smith might find himself on a suspended list, something that would be unfortunate for one of the game's up-and-coming defensive players. Smith was activated back to San Francisco's 53-man roster after a five-week stint in a rehab facility, with hopes to kick an alcohol addiction that led to a recent DUI arrest.
"I'm getting there. Every day's just a step closer to getting to where I want to be," Smith said, via The Associated Press. "I've gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person."
Smith has also had trouble with the law in relation to gun charges. Just before he was activated back to the 49ers' roster, he had to turn himself in for weapons charges.
