Tom Coughlin said he wanted something witty to say and he was maybe a little surprised it took until the third question for him to be asked about his contract.
But the 67-year-old New York Giants coach made it clear he has no plans to retire soon even though he has only one year remaining on his contract after this.
“I wondered how long it would take to get to that. I tried to think of something funny to say, but I don’t know what to say about it,” Coughlin said today at Lucas Oils Stadium. “I don’t even know how a young man would come to that statement. I approach each year the way I always approach them and the energy is flowing well and I’m excited about it. I’m looking forward to this offseason and getting our football team together again.
“Maybe at some point I’ll get the message, but it certainly isn’t right now.”
It’s a fair question given Coughlin’s age but considering his success the Giants are not going to want to part ways with him in the near future. As long as Coughlin is happy and committed in his role, expect him to remain in place.
