In a move that likely indicates the Chicago Bears are preparing to be without Brian Urlacher, the team signed reserve linebacker Dom DeCicco today.
DeCicco finished second on the Bears in special teams tackles last season and was released at the end of preseason with an injury settlement after suffering a groin injury.
Urlacher removed himself with a hamstring injury before the final play of Sunday’s 23-17 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Soldier Field. Coach Lovie Smith referred to it as a hamstring pull on Monday. The Bears moved strong-side linebacker Nick Roach to middle linebacker and used Geno Hayes on the strong side. That is the alignment they will likely use Sunday at Minnesota in the event Urlacher missed a game for the first time since the 2009 season when a freak wrist injury forced him on injured reserve for 15 games.
The team has other health concerns. Cornerback Tim Jennings, who leads the NFL with eight interceptions, also left the Seahawks game with a shoulder injury after a crushing hit from Seattle fullback Michael Robinson. The team has not released any information on the status of Jennings.
