The Seattle Seahawks have finally acknowledged what everyone in the NFL knew for the last 48 hours, that Pete Carroll would become their next head coach.

The team announced the move on its Web site, and said the plan is now to put the finishing touches on the carriage-before-the-horse arrangement by hiring a general manager.

“We are excited to add Pete as our coach. He brings a great passion for winning and a positive attitude that is contagious,” said team CEO Tod Leiweke. “We now turn our full attention to the hiring process for a general manager. Our intended structure is for Pete and the new GM to work in a collaborative capacity on football matters.”

Carroll is expected to bring a handful of coaches with him from Southern Cal, where he is expected to meet the team today. Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates is expected to be in that group after he told the Bears he was canceling an interview with them on Tuesday.
